Since 1870 it has belonged to the Moreno de la Cova family, who have put all their effort into conserving and bringing back to life this historic building, paying careful attention to every detail of its heritage. As fate took us to Palma del Río, we could not miss out on the opportunity to spend the night in the former 15th-century Franciscan convent, now the San Francisco Monastery Hotel, an extraordinary place that over that centuries has served as a hermitage, hospital, convent, granary, family residence, and even a parish. Stepping through the large front door our pace slows down to take in frescoes, cloisters, weathered stone, and the mural that recalls how the friars took oranges from Palma del Río to California. Among the art, flowers, a pool framed by gardens and a well-maintained orchard, this slice of history has been reinvented with slow living in mind.
