Lo que comenzó como la Asociación SOS Perrera Los Barrios se transformó en fundación en 2023, con el objetivo de ampliar su impacto y facilitar el apoyo ciudadano. Con unos 7.000 perros acogidos en 17 años, han logrado un vínculo más allá del rescate, ya que la Fundación no solo acoge perros, también los integra en la vida social de la comunidad. Colabora con colegios, residencias de mayores y asociaciones de discapacidad, mostrando que la compañía de un perro puede educar, alegrar y humanizar. Y es por esto que SOS Canya se ha convertido hoy en un centro de referencia en el Campo de Gibraltar. El refugio es un ejemplo de cómo una comunidad puede unirse alrededor de una causa noble. Gracias a las adopciones, los donativos y apadrinamientos, así como a la imprescindible ayuda de los voluntarios, pueden llevar a cabo su labor. Son muchas las personas que acuden a Los Barrios a echar una mano: asean a los perros, les dan de comer o los pasean, sacándolos de sus jaulas un rato. Cualquier colaboración, por pequeña que sea, es bienvenida. There is a place in Los Barrios where dogs are given care, love and, above all, a second chance: the SOS CANYA Foundation. What started off as the Los Barrios Dog SOS Association became a foundation in 2023, with the aim of extending its impact and facilitating the support of citizens. Having rescued around 7,000 dogs in 17 years, they have developed a bond that goes beyond rescue as the foundation not only takes dogs in, but also integrates them in the social life of the community. It works with schools, old people’s homes and associations for the disabled, showing that having a dog for company can teach, bring happiness and make us more humane. And for this very reason, SOS Canya has now become a benchmark in the Campo de Gibraltar. The shelter is an example of how a community can come together for a noble cause. Thanks to adoptions, donations and sponsoring, not to mention the invaluable help of the volunteers, they can carry out their work. A large number of people go to Los Barrios to lend a helping hand: they groom the dogs, feed or walk them, taking them out of their cages for a while. Any help, however trivial this may be, is welcomed.
