Los Bonda es uno de esos grupos étnicos con los que he tenido la oportunidad de convivir durante los últimos meses. Un grupo localizado en una región montañosa de la provincia de Odisha, al noreste de la India. Al observar imágenes de esa tribu publicadas en algunos libros, me llamó la atención el parecido que presentaban las mujeres con sus abalorios y vestimentas, a otros pueblos del continente africano como los Turkana o los Samburu. Las mujeres son las que más han logrado conservar ese especial estilo de vestir tan diferente a otros grupos étnicos de la India. Sus collares, pendientes e indumentaria cargados de colores, manifiestan los posibles orígenes africanos. Se cree que los Bonda han sido uno de los primeros grupos humanos en abandonar África hace unos 60.000 años. Igualmente, fueron uno de los primeros en asentarse en los bosques de la India. Hablan Remo, un lenguaje austro asiático que es parte de la lengua Mundari. It is getting more diff icult every year for me to f ind groups of humans that dismiss our way of life and cling on to ancient customs. The Bonda people are one of those ethnic groups that I have had the chance to live with over the last few months. A group located in a mountainous region of the province of Odisha, in the north-east of India. Looking at pictures of the tribe in books, what caught my eye was the likeness of the women, with their beads and clothing, to other peoples in Africa like the Turkana or the Samburu. It is the women that have managed to hold on to that special way of dressing the most, so different to other ethnic groups in India. Their necklaces, earrings and garments bursting with colour hint at African origins. The Bonda are thought to have been one of the f irst groups of humans to abandon Africa around 60,000 years ago. Likewise, they were some of the f irst to settle in the forests of India. They speak Remo, an Austroasiatic language that is part of the Munda branch.
