91 MODA After a degree in Law, how did fashion come into your life? Although it may seem like a radical change, it all came about naturally. I’ve always had a creative side, but I kept it as a sideline for many years. I began by making accessories like earrings or necklaces, which I sold at university. While preparing for civil service exams I moved on to handbags and then the coin dropped that this made more sense than what I had planned. Entrepreneurial spirit doesn’t suddenly arrive, it grows on you slowly until you decide to pay it more attention. Why do you think your passion for design comes from? I’ve always had it. From watching, noticing finer details, seeing loads of films, magazines, and seeing how an item of clothing can change a woman’s demeanour. Studying in London was important because it opened doors to the millinery world and taught me the basics and technique. What do you remember about those early days, the atelier and your first shop? Very intense and very craft-oriented. The workshop was allconsuming: hours and hours, trial, error, constant learning. That workshop was my first shop, the place where I also raised my three children in their early years. There was no strategy, merely intuition, hard work and a customer base that started to become loyal. Venías de la carrera judicial ¿Cómo llega la moda a tu vida? Fue bastante natural, aunque desde fuera parezca un giro radical. Siempre he tenido una parte muy creativa, pero durante años la mantuve en paralelo. Empecé haciendo complementos, como pendientes o collares, que vendía durante la carrera. Durante las oposiciones empecé con los bolsos y hubo un momento en el que vi claro que eso tenía más sentido para mí que seguir el camino q tenía trazado. El emprendimiento no llega de golpe, se va imponiendo poco a poco hasta que decides escucharlo firmemente. ¿De dónde crees que viene esa pasión por el diseño? Viene de siempre. De observar, de fijarme en los detalles, de ver muchísimas películas, revistas… de observar cómo una prenda puede cambiar la actitud de una mujer. Estudiar en Londres fue importante porque me abrió el camino hacia el mundo de la sombrerería, me dio las bases y la técnica. ¿Cómo recuerdas esos comienzos, el taller, la primera tienda? Muy intensos y muy artesanales. El taller era todo: horas y horas, prueba, error, aprendizaje constante. La primera tienda fue también ese taller, donde además de trabajar críe a mis tres niños sus primeros años de vida. No había estrategia, había intuición, mucho trabajo y una clientela que comenzó a ser fiel.
