28 LIVING Tampoco tienes límites. Has trabajado en el Palacio Real, residencias y hasta en una película de Wes Anderson. ¿Cuál consideras que ha sido hasta ahora tu mayor reto? La verdad es que he vivido unas experiencias maravillosas. El proyecto de Wes Anderson fue una de ellas. Había pintado sobre lienzos, metal, cristal, madera, piedra…, pero nunca sobre una seda tan fina y sin margen de error. Otra de mis mejores experiencias fue un mural que pintamos en Jiangxi, China, en un muro de doscientos de metros de largo en un hotel de lujo. Se pintó por franjas en las que intervenimos 16 muralistas de distintas partes del mundo, uno por país, yo representaba a Cuba, en honor a mi padre, la artista cubana Glenda León le hablo al comisario de la exposición de mí, y fui seleccionada. Estuvimos semanas trabajando juntos y fue una experiencia inolvidable y más compartida con mi gremio. Eres también artífice de los murales de los Hoteles Misiana y El Escondite en Tarifa Es otro proyecto que disfruté muchísimo, más siendo en Tarifa. Hubo un equipo fantástico detrás. En Misiana, la propiedad del hotel tenía muy claro el concepto y fue maravilloso trabajar sobre esa idea del diseño de los años 60-70 de Miami. Además, trabajé por primera vez sobre el ladrillo visto y dejó unas texturas muy cálidas. En el Escondite optamos por algo más abstracto, más ligado a Tarifa. Me encantó hacer los barcos de pescadores que hay subiendo a la azotea. You have no limits. You have worked in the Royal Palace, in private homes, and even in a Wes Anderson film. What would you say has been the biggest challenge so far? The truth is I have had some wonderful experiences. The Wes Anderson project was one of them. I had painted onto canvas, metal, glass, wood and stone, but never on such a fine silk with no margin for error. Another great experience was a mural that we painted in Jiangxi, China. It was a 200-metre-long mural in a luxury hotel. It was painted in sections and involved 16 muralists from all around the world, each one from a different country. I was representing Cuba, in honour of my father. The Cuban artist Glenda León mentioned me to the exhibition curator and I was chosen. We worked together for weeks and it was an unforgettable experience, especially sharing it with peers from my profession. You are also the mastermind behind the murals in the Misiana and El Escondite hotels in Tarifa That's another project I really enjoyed, more so as it was in Tarifa. I had a fantastic support team. In Misiana, the owners of the hotel were in no doubt about the concept and it was wonderful working with that design idea based on the sixties and seventies in Miami. What’s more, it was the first time I’d worked on bare brick and it left some really warm textures. In El Escondite we went for something a little more abstract, with closer links to Tarifa. I loved doing the fishing boats that you can see on the way up to the rooftop. 2 3
